Constant-Torque Clutch

Permanent-magnet hysteresis clutches and brakes — torque freely set, constant at any speed, no external control or power required, reliable, low maintenance, flexible mounting, customisable enclosure, can be designed for fine torque-variation engagement applications, used for constant-torque transmission or as a torque-protection device.

A permanent-magnet hysteresis brake is a non-contact variable-torque brake that exploits the field of permanent magnets. It is used not only for tension control of wire, paper, film, and light-alloy foil, but also as a torque limiter on strapping machines, screw drivers, positioning systems, and precision equipment, plus torque measurement and endurance testing on small motors — a broad application area. Torque range: 0 … 3000 N·m.

Advantages:

1. Constant torque + adjustable control

Constant torque independent of speed; adjustable range 1:4 per unit.

2. Stable torque + excellent in-line repeatability

Two permanent magnets adjust the field steplessly by distance, without changing polarity — yielding stable torque.

3. Clean and safe

Non-contact: no wear debris — ideal for clean operation.

Non-contact: inherently safe — common on ultra-clean conveyors.

4. Lower cost

No external power, plumbing, or wiring — simple installation, lower cost.

5. Long service life, no repair needed

Non-contact: no wear debris, no parts to swap — runs unattended for years; final life is bearing-limited. Replace bearings and the clutch resumes service.

Permanent-magnet hysteresis clutches and brakes provide smooth constant torque, giving equipment flexible start-up and overload protection, requiring no protection of their own, and running for very long lives.

1. Constant torque across speed range

Torque is constant from minimum to maximum speed.

The clutch solves nearly every tension-control problem.

2. Quick torque setting

Set torque by scale indication.

Continuously adjustable between max and min for optimum tension on unique applications.

Torque setpoint is easy to read.

3. No external control or power

Easy install. No maintenance. Unaffected by voltage variation or power loss. Safe to use.

4. Reliable

No sudden transition between static and dynamic tension; eliminates friction-disc stiction and powder caused by speed change.

Long life, no wear.

Low-speed tension accuracy surpasses competing products.

5. Multiple mounting options, easy retrofit

Clutch shaft can be hollow for sleeve-fit over motor shafts or extension shafts.

Mounting holes can be used for fixed mounting, pulley mounting, or short-shaft adapters.
